Diwali: A Celebration of Light and Compassion

We, at Shri Chandana Vidyapeeth Nairobi, came together to celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights, with a vibrant and meaningful event held during our regularly scheduled Jain classes. All the students (varying in age from between 5 and 60) participated in a fun and creative lantern-making activity. Our wonderful teachers had done the groundwork beforehand, and, on the day, everyone was involved in this wonderful activity. As everyone worked together to create their masterpieces laughter and excitement filled the room! A total of 130 lanterns were made and these were subsequently used at Oshwal Centre Nairobi as part of their Diwali decorations for Chopra and Sharda Poojan and the New Year Celebration.

A special powerpoint presentation was also prepared by the teachers to showcase Bhagwan Mahavir, the 24th Tirthankar. The presentation highlighted his compassionate nature and his teachings on non-violence, ahimsa, and respect for all living beings. The children were captivated by the stories of Bhagwan Mahavir's life and his message of peace and harmony.

To promote environmental awareness, the harmful effects of fireworks were also discussed. The children learned about the pollution caused by fireworks and how it can negatively impact air quality, wildlife, and the environment. By understanding the consequences of using fireworks, the children were encouraged to celebrate Diwali in a more eco-friendly and responsible manner.
