The Covid-19 pandemic is devastating the lives of people all over the world. India was recently the epicentre of this suffering! People are fearful, feeling helpless, engulfed with sorrow. The severity of the illness, the social isolation and lack of access to medical facilities meant that those who contracted Covid-19, and their loved ones, had become powerless and even the basic necessities such as preparing healthy and nutritious meals had become a huge challenge.

In these dire times only positive actions underpinned with our compassion, friendship and support for all those in need, will make a difference. To meet these challenges Veerayatan, with the blessings and inspiration of Pujya Acharya Shri Chandanaji Maharaj, started an initiative of preparing and delivering hot pure vegetarian food to families in quarantine or suffering with Covid in the city of Ahmedabad where millions suffered in this dreadful situation.

The task was huge and the logistics challenging but so much was achieved:

• An astonishing 9,842 meals over 41 days were prepared and delivered to people in need with love!
• Nutritious food was freshly prepared in conditions where hygiene was assured.
• A team of around 40 dedicated volunteers and paid workers were mobilised in a very short period of time and an efficient process ensured the project worked seamlessly.
• Each and every food tray was given with love and with warm wishes for a speedy recovery!

This work positively impacted the lives of those affected who expressed the following sentiments:

We, a family of 4, have all got Covid and have no strength to prepare food – we feel that God has descended upon us and showered us with prasad

Veerayatan’s activities in Ahmedabad have now reduced due to the reduced number of Covid-19 cases.
