Tirthankar Mahavir Vidya Mandir
Osian and Sanchore
These two beautiful schools were started in 2017 for the uplift of the under privileged children. The school in Osian was donated to Veerayatan by Shri B.L. Soniji, leading industrialist from Jodhpur, and the school in Sanchore was donated by Late Shri Manohar Kanugo.
Veerayatan has transformed these schools, which are both English medium schools affiliated with the Rajasthan Education Board, and open to all without any distinction of caste, creed, religion or socio-economic background. The schools have high standards in place and the teaching methods and assessments are aligned with these standards. The children are provided with holistic education which includes academic and value-based education and children are also taught to look after nature. Overall personality and character building of the children is of utmost importance. And Veerayatan is also working hard to ensure that girls are getting educated by giving incentives to parents and encouraging parents. In this regard, it is heartening to see that there are almost equal number of girls and boys at the school. Child marriages are common and again Veerayatan is working with the local population in discouraging this.
Both the schools provide a safe, caring atmosphere and environment, conducive to learning and focusing on individual growth of every child. Osian school has grown from 82 to 155 students and from kindergarten to Std 5 in the academic year 2019-20. The Sanchore school started with 176 students and has enrolled 262 students from Std 1 to Std 6 in 2019-20.
The education provided is at very subsidised rates with some children fully sponsored because of their dire home situations. Children are provided uniforms, school bags, a water bottle, stationery, note-books, and textbooks. These are highly subsidised for the children in Sanchore but are given free to all the children in Osian. Children travel from afar to come to school, especially in Osian as there are many small villages where there is no access to educational facilities with some children having to travel up to 25km one way to come to school each day.
Academically the students are doing very well and have achieved 100% pass marks in previous years. With the unprecedented times in 2020 with the Government closing schools because of Covid, these were challenging times for all but especially in Osian as many families there do not have facilities for online studying. Therefore, Veerayatan decided to conduct classes on What’s app making education accessible to many more children in the rural areas and for those parents who did not have smartphones, Veerayatan donated money towards the cost of these phones. In Sanchore all the students were able to access online classes.
With blessings of our beloved Pujya Tai Maa, the schools are been able to impart excellent education despite the challenging circumstances, so keeping its motto of Seva, Shiksha, Sadhana alive.
